Our Church Can Be Your Home

pgh_street_sign.jpg Welcome to the Pittsburgh District
Church of the Nazarene

We are a district with a one hundred year old past and a missional future. The 93 active congregations, ReStart churches and NewStart church plants are reaching out to over 25,000 people every week in Western Pennsylvania. Whether you live in one of our cities, our numerous small towns or in the rural countryside, we probably have a congregation of people near you...a congregation that will welcome you, love you, help you connect with God and offer you the opportunity to serve Him.

We hope you find everything you need as you visit our website. Perhaps you, too, will find out that "Our Church Can Be Your Home."

Family Camp 2009

Join us at the Mt. Chestnut Nazarene Retreat and Conference Center for the 2009 Family Camp on July 26-August 2. The Center is located at 177 North Road, Butler, PA (Mt. Chestnut Village, US 422, near Morraine State Park and Lake Arthur).

Family Camp is a week-long event with guest preachers, special music, and age-appropriate services and activities for teens and children each morning and evening. In the afternoons, spend time with your family by relaxing in the Grove, playing basketball in the gym, taking on some friends at the paintball field (fee charged), swimming in the pool, and playing on the playground. In addition, there are many area attractions such as golf, Lake Arthur, Morraine State Park, and Living Treasures Zoo.

Come for a day or come for the entire time. A variety of lodging is available, including motel-like dorm rooms to RV lots. Reservations are usually taken after January 1, but please call the Pittsburgh District Office (724-287-5867) for details. FOOD....Food is important! And you can eat to your heart's content at the Dining Hall Buffet (all meals).

For 2009, our guest preachers are Rev. David Gallimore (Sunday through Wednesday) and Rev. Gerry Whetstone (Thursday through Sunday). Our special musician is Rev. Mark Murphy. Our Bible Teacher is Dr. Charles Self, on-line administrator/professor at Nazarene Bible College.

Eastern Nazarene College Has A New Mascot

lions_136.gif

Eastern Nazarene College has a new mascot: Henceforth, the Christian liberal arts college’s athletics teams will be known as theENC Lions. The new mascot was introduced to students, faculty and staff at an ice cream social held to mark the end of the semester and celebrate seniors’ upcoming commencement.

“We wanted to share the news of our new mascot before our graduating seniors left campus,” College President Corlis McGee said. “The entire ENC community had an opportunity to offer input, and we look forward to rooting for our ENC Lions at sporting events in the future.”

Created by Quincy’s Cyclone Design, the new mascot features a golden lion atop the college name, with the word “LIONS” outlined in red over the college shield. The Lions replaces the college’s previous mascot of the Crusaders – a term whose connotation has changed over the years, ENC officials said.

“The lion is a symbol of courage and strength,” said McGee, noting that the Bible refers to Jesus as “the Lion of the tribe of Judah.” “I think the very fact that ENC was willing to explore the mascot issue, and to open a dialogue on the subject, exemplifies the strengths of a Christian liberal arts education.”
