Dear Pittsburgh District Family:

I am excited to announce to you today that I have accepted the appointment of the Board of General Superintendents, in consultation with your District Advisory Council, to become your new District Superintendent. This appointment came as a complete surprise to me, but not to the Lord. My first reaction was one of shock, humility and even a measure of fear as well. I had never really given any thought to being anything else but a “Pastor” in the local church. That call of God was humbling enough, but the thought of being a District Superintendent was, to say the least, overwhelming. As I shared this possibility with my wife Deb and we began to pray and consider the possibility, my heart began to move from a sense of shock to excitement. The more we prayed, the more God seemed to stir my heart. I requested a meeting with the District Advisory Council to allow me the opportunity to hear their heartbeat for the Pittsburgh District and better understand what it was they thought your district needed in a new leader. After meeting with them for a couple of hours, listening to their love for the district and what it was they thought the district needed, I was certain this was of God!

Now, does that mean that I think I have everything I need to be a District Superintendent? By no means! But I do believe that God has been preparing me, my wife, my family and each of you for this time. Knowing that this is God’s will has also reminded me that when God calls, He also promises to equip and give everything needed to complete that call. There is much for me to learn in the days ahead. But I am excited and looking forward to getting to know each of you and working together with you, to see God’s Kingdom continue to grow. I am confident that as we seek the Lord, unite together for His purposes and trust Him in every step, great days are ahead.

Because of some district responsibilities that Deb and I have here on the Upstate District, we want to be faithful to complete our commitments. Deb coordinates Family Camp for the Upstate District and is also the director of our NYI Camp 789. I am also ending a ministry to this local church and community that has spanned over 13 years. We have a home to sell and our youngest son to get ready to head to Eastern Nazarene College. Therefore, in order to support Deb in her obligations, and to close out the local ministry, I will not be officially starting until 1 August 2017. However, I will be present for District Assembly, and Deb and I will be down for a day or two of Family Camp so that we might begin to get to know each of you and begin to develop the bonds we will need to have to work together in the days ahead. We are excited to get to know each of you and allow you to get to know us as well.

Please know that you are very much in our thoughts and prayers and we look forward to being with you soon.

Dan Eddings
