The following CORE VALUES guide the mission and ministry of the Pittsburgh District Church of the Nazarene:

1. Strengthening Local Churches
-- We believe the local church and pastor are keys to reaching the mission field around them. We are committed to listening and responding to the needs of local churches and pastors. We are partners together in building the Kingdom of God. To that end, we will provide training and coaching in areas critical to church health in both group and individual settings. We are committed to assisting our local churches and pastors with information intended to advance our shared mission. We are committed to finding ways to maximize the resources of the local church so that their mission work is unhindered and enhanced.

2. Developing Leadership
-- We believe that leadership is required to accomplish the missionary task given to us by Jesus in the Great Commission. We are committed to identifying leaders among the laity and clergy and providing training to enlarge their influence and improve their competency.

3. Building Community
-- We are in this together. One church or pastor cannot accomplish what many of us can accomplish if we work together. We seek to provide collaborative opportunities where we can work toward a common goal. We seek to expand our partnerships to include churches on our district, our district pastors, district ministries, districts on the ENC region, Eastern Nazarene College, our general headquarters, the global Nazarene community, and other partners who share our commitment to unity around a common mission.

4. Being Missional
-- We believe God has called us to go and make disciples. When we do this, we are being missional. To this end, we are committed to starting new churches (New Starts) in whatever way we can. Henry Blackaby wrote that we should find where God is working and go there to join Him in His work. That is our basic New Start philosophy. We invite lay people, pastors, local churches, small groups, and churches partnering together to start making disciples that might become the core of a new church.
